Laugh Alone

I Laugh, Alone

Do you remember when

Dot dot dot

I fill in the blanks

Left to laugh alone

The smile on my face is for both of us

But only I understand its sadness

Yours is a plastic smile

A mask

It cuts deep to see you try

Even deeper when you don’t

A shrug

Dismissed in a moment

Cut to the quick

But who do I tell?

Who will remember?

There is only one thing to do

And to it, I heartily subscribe

I will laugh.

Alone.

For both of us.
