Two Sides of Me

I write under a pen name.  That name is Caycie Thompson.  Caycie Thompson writes erotica.

I write under my own name.  That name is Abigail Grimes.  Abigail Grimes writes “mainstream” fiction, poetry and Letters to Nowhere; takes snapshots of graffiti and makes remarks about them.

Sometimes, I find myself referring to Caycie as though she is a real person – I mean, she is.  She is me.  But what I mean to say is, I speak of her as though she is a completely different person.  It’s kind of funny when I catch myself doing it because it comes so naturally to me to think of her that way.  It is usually someone else reminding me that she and I are, in fact, the same person.

Sometimes I feign confusion, to have a little fun with the person who is reminding me.  But rest assured, I am aware that Caycie Thompson and I are the same person.

The reason for the distinction is clear.  They are two different personas and given the fact that the Caycie persona writes in a very distinct genre, how ‘she’ and I interact with the world can be a bit different.  In particular, how we engage in marketing.

Caycie Thompson self-published a book of prompts in February of this year called 69 Prompts for Writers of Erotica.  It is available in both paperback and on Kindle.  It is a helpful book to help authors of any genre gain some insight into writing smaller moments in grander projects and to learn how to fill in the sights, sounds, smells, and motivations that play out before, during, and after your steamy scenes.

Caycie Thompson’s website, cayciethompson.com, is a place where writers can find steamy prompts to inspire love scenes, settings, or dialogue.  If you suffer from the occasional bout of writer’s block, as we all do from time to time, encourage you to check her (me) out over there!

Caycie is also on Instagram and Twitter @writtenbycaycie.  Give me a follow on those platforms for updates in Caycie’s world.

I will also be writing some musings over here on Written by Grimes, that have to do with Caycie’s World and her journey as an indie author and the unique challenges that erotica writers face in this industry.

Until next time, I hope everyone has a great day and I hope to see some of you over at cayciethompson.com!

    1. Having a pen name is cool. You just have to remember to respond when someone calls you by that name! 😉

On a more practical note, it certainly adds another layer of online management to your life.

Have a great remainder of your weekend!
