The space you once were
Calls to me, Taunts me
Mocks me
It knows me better than you
It knows my fears
My desires
My loneliness
It surrounds me with riling laughter and judgment
Its arms like weighted blankets surround me
Crushing me
Its hands placed over my eyes and ears
So I don’t bear witness as I drown
And yet, I live
Day after Day
Week after Week
Year after Year,
Moving round and round, as though everything is fine
Only, it’s the night that I am afraid of
How it hovers and drapes
The only solace is its consistency
Without you, I loathe when it is upon me
It is the night that proves my constant and ever-faithful companion
Here.
In this space you used to be
I know that I have said this before but it is worth repeating that I love reading your poetry!!
