Piece of Me

Images and shapes sharpen into focus
Then fade to blurs in the background
Breath comes in puffs of smoke and steam

A cacaphony of sound surrounds
Disorienting and overwhelming
Crashing all around

Then you appear
Manifested, as if from a dream
Focus, Calm
True

An embrace
A crime
I breathe you in
A scent so familiar

Eyes closed,
We move on instinct
The curve of your neck but a breath away

The warmth of your body against mine
The softness of your lips brush my skin,
And press, with fleeting pressure, upon my upturned cheek

A subtle turn,
And murmurs of greeting are read through an electric undercurrent of touch
Captured by the clandestine meeting of lips

I've missed you.
I dare not say it aloud

But from tender lips pressed to another,
The sentiment is breathed from my soul to yours
And in their dance, echoed back, and my heart is full

And alas, in an aching, restrained, stolen moment
The piece of me, missing for so long, is found
