The echo of heat is all that remains
Buried under aloof neglect
The flame went out
A great fire raged here
Long ago
Surrounded by trappings
Sealed on all sides by expectations
It suffocated
Starkly refusing to acknowledge it's existence,
It starved
Red hot embers glowed
Then, fuel met water
Extinguishing what remained of possibility
Without question or pause, sand
Finality
Snuffed out
No difference existing between
Inattentiveness or malicious purpose
There once was a great fire that burned
And you killed it

I really enjoyed reading this poem. It took me back to my younger days when I used to go camping. Great writing!
